Students will learn the foundational skills required to become a cardiac sonographer. Our  hybrid curriculum is structured  to provide accelerated training while gaining a thorough understanding of echocardiography.

Practicum

Students will gain hands-on experience in performing noninvasive cardiovascular procedures with an emphasis on proper scanning techniques, Doppler analysis, and image optimization.

Course Content

Week 1: Intro to Sonography
Welcome to Chapter 1 of "Intro to Sonography," a comprehensive course designed to provide a foundational understanding of the fascinating world of medical sonography. In this initial module, we delve into the fundamentals of ultrasound imaging, exploring the principles that form the bedrock of this non-invasive diagnostic technique. From an overview of sound waves and their interaction with tissues to the basic components of ultrasound equipment, students will gain insight into the science behind sonography. Join us as we embark on a journey that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications, setting the stage for a rewarding exploration of the diverse realms within the field of medical ultrasound.

Week 3: Basic Principles & Knobology
In Intro to Sonography Chapter 5 - Basic Principles & Knobology, students will master the foundational principles of ultrasound imaging and develop proficiency in equipment control (knobology), laying the groundwork for precise and effective diagnostic sonography.

Week 4: Cardiovascular Physiology
In Part II of DeWitt Chapter 1, delve into the dynamic realm of Cardiovascular Physiology, gaining insights into the intricate mechanical responses to conduction within the heart, essential for a nuanced comprehension of cardiovascular sonography.

Week 5: Easter Week (No Classes)

Week 6: Measurements
In Chapter 4a of DeWitt's course, delve into the precision of cardiac measurements through Parasternal Long-Axis (PLAX) and M-Mode techniques in Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE), enhancing your proficiency in capturing and interpreting essential data for comprehensive cardiovascular assessment.

Week 7: Measurements Continued
Dive into the realm of advanced cardiac measurements with a focus on Apical 4-Chamber view, Simpson's method, and Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI), enhancing your proficiency in comprehensive cardiac assessment through nuanced sonographic techniques.

Week 8: Apical 5, 2, 3, Subcostal & Notch
In Chapter 4a of DeWitt's course, explore the dynamic aspects of Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) through Apical 5-Chamber, 2-Chamber, 3-Chamber, Subcostal, and Notch views, honing your skills in capturing diverse perspectives for a comprehensive assessment of cardiac anatomy and function.

Week 9: Transesophageal Echo (TEE)
